Cinnabar Moths

Bill Dickie
These little dark grey & magenta moths are our best defense against the noxious, introduced Tansy Ragwort. The larvae (beautifully striped black & yellow caterpillars) feast on Tansy buds and flowers. Tansy Ragwort causes sclerosis of the liver in cattle, goats & horses. It has had a critical impact on pastures in Oregon and Washington and is manageable in BC. The introduction of the Cinnabar Moth has been extremely helpful in the eradication of Tansy. The other removal method is mowing prior to flowering. We are happy to see a healthy increase of the Cinnabar Moth on Thetis in the last couple of years.

Green Gala an amazing success!

Those of us involved in organizing the Green Gala Fundraiser would like to express our sincere thanks to all of you who generously contributed goods and services for the silent auction and event prizes, and also to those who cheerfully gave us a hand with set up,service, and clean up. Also, many thanks to all who came out to the event and supported the Garden through dancing and feasting, and bidding on auction items! It was a full capacity, fun, and fantastic celebration of community, and together we raised $1700 for Your Community Learning Garden projects and initiatives.
If you are interested in becoming more involved in Garden happenings, please contact Stephanie Cottell at stephanie.cottell@gmail.com.
Cheers and Happy Summer!
Upper Body Exercises

At Forbes Hall starting this this fall, I will be facilitating Upper Body strength-building exercises, using Bands or Free Weights. Having done these exercises myself for many years, I will be there to help out if needed. This is a gentle form of exercise for those of all ages and limitations. An information flyer will be sent out nearer to the date. Stay tuned!
