Dear eSPOKES readers:
Below are the statements (and website links) of the candidates running for the Cowichan-Malahat-Langford riding (which includes Thetis Island): Alistair MacGregor (NDP, the incumbent), Kathleen Code (Green Party), Jeff Kibble (Conservative Party). A statement from the Liberal Party candidate (Blair Herbert) can be found in yesterday’s e-Spokes.
Statements for all four candidates are about the same word length (please see their websites for more information). E-Spokes has not altered the candidate’s statements, nor do we endorse any specific candidate. (Please see eSPOKES guidelines regarding election posts immediately below the candidates’ statements.)
Alistair MacGregor (NDP) <https://alistairmacgregor2025.ndp.ca/>
The Cowichan Valley has been my home for 35 years, and I’m now raising my family here on a small farming property. It has been a huge honour serving as the Member of Parliament for Cowichan-Malahat-Langford since 2015, having been re-elected in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections. I’ve served as the NDP Caucus Chair, Critics for Justice, Public Safety, Food Price Inflation and Agriculture and Agri-Food. I was also the Vice-Chair of the Special Joint Committee on Medical Assistance in Dying. During my time in the House of Commons, I’ve been the proud sponsor of several bills, including a national soil conservation strategy, a national brain injury strategy, and a national food cooperative strategy.
I’m running because I believe strongly that our riding needs a representative who will stand up for our workers and small businesses and against the corporate welfare and deference and we have seen for decades from both Liberal and Conservative governments. In Cowichan Malahat Langford it is a two-way race between the NDP and the Conservatives. In this time of great uncertainty, I am the one candidate who offers voters a solid 9-year track record of standing up for our riding as Member of Parliament and can hit the ground running, able to get to work right away on defending our healthcare and our communities in the face of the from Donald Trump.
On April 28, vote for me, Alistair MacGregor.
Kathleen Code (Green Party) <https://www.greenparty.ca/en/candidate/kathleen-code>
These are tough times for us as Canadians, but first and foremost, I want you to know that I am a proud Canadian. We live in an amazing country, populated by a great diversity of peoples and a stunning environment.
Sure, things are not perfect – we can and must do better and I believe that as the Green Party of Canada, we can champion those things that are critical to our well-being and prosperity. Now, American tariffs are threatening our way of life and our democracy seems more fragile than ever. We must be able to face these challenges with strength, unity and determination. It is critical that the Green Party of Canada engage strong candidates who believe in representing their constituents based on social justice and environmental values.
It has always been in my nature to serve my community and over the years, I have been involved in many community organizations, often taking a leading role. In 2017, after 21 years of service, I retired from the BC Government as an economic development policy analyst, gaining skills and experience in policy analysis, communications, project management, strategic thinking and program implementation. Best of all, I learned how government works, an invaluable insight for anyone wanting to serve in government. I have been able to use these skills effectively to serve my community.
